MY BACKGROUND

Personalised, jolly and effective classes :-)

I did my initial teacher training in Sinaloa, Mexico, working mainly with children between ages 9-16 (photos below). I taught in a Montessori school, with lessons geared towards Culture and History and in a small team I designed, led and ran a Summer School Programme at the Science Centre (Centro de Ciencias de Culiacán). 

Since starting work in London three years ago, I have tended to teach adults and teenagers, one-to-one or in small groups of family members or friends. Students and I quickly become friends and goodbyes are normally very tearful! 

As well as training with TEFL Org UK, I have trained in "Creative English" - a movement and play-based way of learning which helps students to think about language in the right way. I teach this to refugees and migrant women in Barking and Dagenham's Women's Centre through the work I do for Barking and Dagenham Somali Women's Association. These methods are designed for adults with little-to-no English. In this way, my teaching is informed by an understanding of the Psychology of Education. I also have two degrees from University College London (BASc and MSc) which has covered Linguistics, Psychology and Biological and Cultural Anthropology. I'm interested in most subjects, so this breadth and depth of knowledge helps me to tailor classes to the interests of individual students.

Therefore, we can have interesting and enjoyable conversations whilst learning and practising english. We create good, healthy, natural conversation, which is complemented by reading and writing practise. Lessons put reading together at the heart of improving pronunciation, in order to make the most of a short lesson time.
